Actron OBD2 CP9135 Scanner: Can It Diagnose Your Mercedes ABS/ETS Issues?

I’m experiencing a frustrating issue with my 1998 Mercedes-Benz E320 (W210) where the ETS and ABS lights are constantly illuminating. I recently purchased an Actron CP9135 OBD2 scanner, which successfully helped me identify a faulty ignition coil – I was impressed by its ease of use and accuracy for that engine problem. However, when I use the same Actron scanner to check the current ETS/ABS light issue, it reports “No Faults Detected.” This happens even though the lights come on almost every time I drive, especially when making turns.

From my research in online forums, I understand that potential causes for these lights could range from a faulty brake light switch to wheel speed sensors. Many suggest reading the fault codes to pinpoint the exact problem. This leads me to wonder if my Actron CP9135 scanner is capable of reading the specific codes related to the ETS and ABS systems on my Mercedes.

So, my primary question is: Do I need a different type of scanner to retrieve the ETS/ABS codes? Is the Actron CP9135 limited to only reading generic OBD2 codes related to the engine and emissions, and therefore missing the Mercedes-specific or chassis-related fault codes?

Furthermore, I’m curious about the IM Readiness functions of my scanner. Should I be using the Actron CP9135 to reset these functions in my situation, or is that irrelevant to the ETS/ABS issue?

Another potential factor I’m considering is a brake light problem. I currently have one brake light that is out due to what appears to be arcing at the bulb holder. Could this seemingly minor issue be triggering the ETS/ABS lights to activate?

Finally, I recently replaced the stop light switch. Before installation, I tested the old and new switches with an ohm meter to ensure there were no dead spots. Is it possible that the new switch is still faulty, and should I consider replacing it again as a troubleshooting step?

It’s certainly a far cry from the simpler days of classic Mercedes-Benz engineering! Any guidance on using my Actron CP9135 scanner for these ETS/ABS issues, or recommendations for a more suitable diagnostic tool, would be greatly appreciated.
