For nearly a decade, BMW has been my daily drive, a departure from my previous Mercedes-Benz loyalty. As the current generation of the BMW 8-series nears its end, I’m contemplating future options, specifically wondering if there’s anything as captivating in the BMW lineup to replace it. The new 5-series design doesn’t quite resonate with me, leading me to consider alternatives. This brings me to a question for the community: Have any current BMW M8, M850, or B8 owners ever considered or cross-shopped a pre-owned Bentley Continental GT V8 before settling on their 8-series?
I recall being drawn to the Bentley Continental GT even before transitioning from S-Class Mercedes to BMW. However, at the time, the significant price difference seemed unjustifiable. Interestingly, the market value for 2020-2022 Bentley Continental GTs has now decreased to around the $160,000 mark. A prime example, like this 2020 Bentley Continental GT, is priced surprisingly close to what one might spend on a fully equipped new BMW M8C or B8 today. For those who appreciate the pinnacle of luxury combined with exhilarating performance, Bentley seems to deliver precisely that. While BMW’s M8 and B8 variants offer a blend of these qualities, the Bentley arguably leans more towards luxury while still maintaining impressive performance capabilities.
My current BMW 8-series isn’t due for replacement immediately, as I intend to enjoy it longer than my typical car ownership period. However, within the next one to three years, pre-owned Bentley Continental GTs of the current generation are projected to fall into the $140,000-$150,000 price range. At this price point, considering a Bentley becomes a very real option when compared to a new, fully-loaded 8-series, or whatever BMW’s equivalent offering might be at that time.
Therefore, I’m particularly interested in hearing from drivers who prioritize both luxury and sportiness in their vehicles. Are there any Bentley Continental GT co-owners or individuals who have experience driving or owning both the Bentley Continental GT and BMW 8-series models? While they are distinct vehicles in some respects, from my perspective and driving style, they appear quite comparable in many ways. I’m keen to gather insights and experiences from those who have navigated this potential crossroads of luxury and performance between Bentley And Bmw.
