Are you ready to embark on an accelerated academic journey that sets you apart? Odessa Collegiate Academy (OCA) offers a unique opportunity for ambitious high school students to earn both a high school diploma and a tuition-free associate degree from Odessa College. If you’re a self-motivated 8th grader looking ahead to high school, understanding the Oca Application process is your first step towards joining the Blue Wolf Family.

What is Odessa Collegiate Academy?

Odessa Collegiate Academy is not your typical high school. Located on the Odessa College campus, OCA provides an accelerated learning environment for students ready for a challenge. Our program is selective, admitting around 125 incoming freshmen each year through a lottery-based application system. The academy’s size is intentionally kept to approximately 450-500 students to ensure a focused and supportive learning community. At OCA, you’ll experience a blend of approximately 20 Honors high school courses taught by experienced ECISD instructors and around 20 college-level courses taught by Odessa College professors.

Why Choose OCA? The Benefits of Early College

The most significant advantage of OCA is the opportunity to earn an Associate’s Degree completely tuition-free while completing your high school education. This means by the time you graduate high school, you’ll also have over 60 college credit hours under your belt, ready to transfer to a four-year university. This jumpstart on your higher education can save you significant time and money in the long run. OCA provides a laptop for students to manage coursework on Blackboard, ensuring you have the resources needed for both high school and college classes. Upon graduation, OCA expects students to continue their academic pursuits at a four-year university to achieve a bachelor’s degree.

Navigating the OCA Application Process

The application for the 2025-2026 school year opens on December 1, 2024. The deadline for applications is January 31, 2025. For prospective families wanting to learn more, OCA hosts recruiting dates. For the 2024-25 school year, these dates are scheduled for October 29th, November 19th, December 10th, 2024, and January 14th, 2025. Attending a recruiting date is highly recommended as it provides comprehensive information about the OCA program and answers frequently asked questions. Notifications regarding lottery selections for incoming 9th graders will be sent via email by February 13th, 2025. For students interested in transferring to OCA for 10th, 11th, or 12th grade, transfer applications will reopen on May 1, 2025.

Is OCA Right For You? Ideal Student Qualities

OCA is seeking students who are self-starters and thrive in a rigorous academic setting. Successful OCA students are comfortable with daily and weekend homework, writing-intensive assignments, and consistently meeting deadlines. If you are a student who is willing to work hard, actively participate in class, manage your time effectively for homework, utilize tutoring resources when needed, maintain excellent attendance, and strive for high grades, OCA could be the perfect environment for you to flourish.
