I’m encountering an issue with my 1998 Mercedes-Benz E320 (W210) where the ETS and ABS lights are illuminating frequently, especially when turning. I’ve already used my Actron CP9135 OBD2 scanner, which I found very effective for diagnosing an ignition coil problem previously. However, this time, the scanner reports “No Faults Detected,” even with the warning lights on.
This situation raises a few questions regarding using my Scanner Obd2 Actron for diagnosing more complex Mercedes issues, specifically the ETS and ABS systems. I’ve researched online forums and found potential causes ranging from a faulty brake light switch to wheel speed sensors. The general consensus is that reading the fault codes is crucial for pinpointing the problem.
Here are my main questions:
-
Is an Actron CP9135 OBD2 scanner sufficient for retrieving ETS/ABS codes on a Mercedes-Benz, or do I need a different type of diagnostic tool? Could the “no faults detected” message simply mean this scanner isn’t capable of accessing these specific system codes?
-
Should I use my Actron scanner to reset the IM Readiness functions in this situation? Is there any benefit to resetting these functions when dealing with ETS/ABS light issues, or is this only relevant for emissions-related problems?
-
One of my brake lights is currently out due to a suspected grounding issue at the bulb holder. Could this seemingly minor problem with a brake light be the reason for the ETS/ABS lights activating? I understand these systems are interconnected, but could a simple brake light issue trigger these warnings?
-
I recently replaced the stop light switch and tested the new switch thoroughly before installation. Is it possible for a new stop light switch to be faulty, and should I consider replacing it again as a potential solution for the ETS/ABS light problem?
It’s definitely a change from the simpler days of older Mercedes models with trigger points and oil bath air filters! Any guidance on using my scanner obd2 actron effectively for these ETS/ABS issues, or advice on next steps, would be greatly appreciated.
